Jake has received another promotion at work. Yayyyy! He's been offered the Director of Sales position which is typically the highest-paying position in a hotel - however, they offered him the job at $25,000 less per year than they paid the previous DOS because their hotel is so deep in the hole! It kinda sucks, but it's still a GREAT opportunity and will be the best job experience he could ask for at this point. The last DOS ran the hotel into the ground so he has a rather large task ahead of him, but his company (and I) have faith that he will turn it around! This also means that I no longer have hopes for us moving back to Phoenix once our lease is up. :( I'm still liking my job and can't believe that I've been at it for over a year. I've never had a job this long before, and I have yet to call in sick or take an actual vacation.
Speaking of vacation, Jake and I are going to Puerto Rico in March for 10 days. I planned the trip and bought the airline tickets before I informed him that we were going, because I knew he wouldn't approve of me spending that kind of money. He got over it pretty quickly, and we are now both super excited!! We leave Friday, March 6th and come back on Sunday the 15th. We're staying at a cheap, local motel that is painted entirely in graffiti. It's called the Coqui Inn. The reviews are actually pretty good, but I don't think the motel is located in a very nice area. That's the only thing I'm a little nervous about. However, it's less than a mile from Isla Verde Beach, which apparently is the most popular beach in Puerto Rico. We're getting a rental car as well so we can tour the island. We'll make sure to take lots and lots of pictures while we're there! Hopefully, I don't get abducted and killed like that female tourist who was out for a jog while she was there last week. Maybe my Daddy will let us take one of his guns. I'll have to ask.

Take lots of pictures! Can't wait to hear all about it.
Coqui Inn is actually in a pretty decent area - but its between a busy commercial strip on the highway and a very nice gated residential community, so it can look intimidating from the highway side.
Its an easy walk to the beach - not even one quarter mile... just up the stairs, cross the overpass, down the stairs, across the main street and a short walk to the beach. Shouldn't be more than 10 minutes from your room to the beach (best beach in San Juan).
Coqui is actually a combination of 3 older budget motels - so rooms can vary quite a bit. If you don't like your first room, ask to see a few more. The staff doesn't always know how each room is - since there are almost 100 rooms. If you have any problem, just ask for the manager Juan - or the owner, Rick.
As long as you're expecting a 'Youth Hostel' type accommodation, you should be happy. It has a fun and funky vibe with lots of PR, Caribbean and International travelers. Rooms have mini-fridge, airco, cable TV and coffee/bun each morning.
Make sure to go to their new restaurant - Kokee, Coqui - but always check the daily lunch specials - much cheaper and good typical PR food.
Have a great trip!
I live very close to Coqui Inn, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask... Rich
So, does this mean no more California? Congratulations to Jake!
Be safe on your trip and please don't take a gun. Stephanie with a gun, SCARY!!!!
I didn't even tell anybody I updated my blog - how did you know? And I was more kidding about the gun. My dad tried to get my sister and I interested in shooting, but I never even wanted to hold the thing.
Hey, I check everyone's blog daily, sometimes twice a day!!
What great news, Jake! Show 'em who's boss! Scares us to think of you going to Puerto Rico, but we'll get over it.
